Join us

The form below is for those wishing to join Scouts or support us an adult volunteer. Please submit a separate form for each person you wish to join.

We have an active Beaver Colony for boys and girls aged 6-8, a Cub Pack for boys and girls aged 8-10½ and a Scout Troop for young people aged 10½-14.

Currently our Beavers meet on Wednesday evenings 6:30-7:30pm; Cubs meet on Thursday evening 6:30-8pm; our Scouts meet Fridays 6:30-8:30pm. We generally meet in Kincladie Woods March-November, and indoors (typically Dunning Village Hall) through the winter. Fees are £25 per term, although there is a fund to offer financial support for subscriptions and trips away - we don't want finance to be a barrier to joining in (contact the GSL - Nathan).

We also have an Explorer Scouts Unit in Dunning (who currently meet at 6:30pm on Friday evenings), and we support Young Leaders (aged 14-17) helping and inspiring each of our Scout sections. Duke of Edinburgh's Award is available to those enrolled in our Explorer Unit (including any Young Leaders)

All parents joining are now required to be vetted through the PVG Scheme to support the parent rota at Scouting sessions and events; it's a small step from being PVG'd to become a volunteer of Scouts (members of section team, or ad-hoc support as a trustee) - more info at the foot of the form.

If you are interested in Squirrels (4-5) or Network (18-25), please look up the Scouts directory at scouts.org.uk/join for your nearest group.

Please note that we currently have a wait list. We prioritise children according to time on the list, home location, child's school and family involvement in Scouting - see our wait list policy for more information.

Volunteering

Our Scout Group in Dunning is run entirely by volunteers. All parents joining will be required to be vetted through the PVG Scheme to support their child and some of our Group's activities throughout the year, but we also need more adults to offer at least 2 hours each month in a variety of volunteer roles:

Note: If you (as a parent/carer) are interested in supporting the Scout Group as a volunteer member of Scouts (either as a team member in Beavers, Cubs or Scouts leader or as a Trustee), not only would it support your child and your local community directly, you will move your child to the top of the wait list.

What capacity are you able to volunteer? Being a volunteer doesn’t require any special skills, or a background in Scouting/Guides or knowledge of knots! The Group was started by a group of friends, almost none of whom knew anything about Scouting; we’ve all learnt “on the job”, and you will too (and don’t tell anyone, but most of the leaders still can’t tie a decent knot). Volunteers can contribute whatever time they feel able to, but typically it would be at least 2 hours each month. Lots of training and support is available.

  3. Respond promptly to any emails and ensure you check & complete your personal profile on the Scouts Membership system - we cannot submit your disclosure until you've added your details.
