We Need Fresh Blood
We are currently looking for up to 3 new members to join the Dunning Scout Group Executive Committee (the Trustees, commonly known as the 'Exec') for the coming year. Any over 18s can apply, and we're looking for a cross-section of Exec members who represent the local community and our Scout Group
It's a fairly lightweight - but important - job, mainly doing admin to support the Leaders in running the Scout Group. Up to 10 members of the Exec meet every 3-4 months, usually in the Kirkstyle Inn on a Monday evening for 1-2 hours. There are always lots of little jobs to help with the running of the Group, but it's important to provide oversight and offer opinion, so that we meet our charitable objectives. There's a really detailed explanation on the Committee at https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-things-locally/executive-committees/support-for-group-executive-members/a-guide-for-the-group-executive-committee-member/about-the-role/, but you might find it easier to chat about it with Nathan, Rob, or any of the current Exec members.
The commitment is only 12 months (although you can stay on for longer). You will need to be vetted through the PVG Scheme (which we sort out for you) and meet the requirements of a Charity Trustee. You'll have to do a little bit of online training to give you background on how the Scouts are organised and ensure you are aware of safeguarding responsibilities. Once PVG'd it means you could support day and overnight trips, which are generally good fun.
We are looking for 2 'Elected Members' and a new Secretary:
- Elected Members represent a cross-section of the Group and the local Community, offering that all-important oversight and helping out with ad-hoc tasks.
- The Secretary takes [really brief] minutes of meetings, occasionally drafts letters, but generally doesn't get asked to do other tasks within the Group.
If you are interested in either of the above roles, please contact Nathan, one of the Scout Leaders or the Chair of the Trustees. The election has to be held during our AGM, which will be part of our "Annual Gathering" on Sunday 19 September, 3pm in Kincladie Wood. See you there.
